I'm building a 2nd floor deck 110 inches high in Houston TX so no frost line issue. I've had several deck builders tell me they will put the 6x6 posts directly in the concrete footers for maximum support. Most of what I've read says don't put the posts in the concrete although some says it's OK. So a few questions 1.) do I set the post in concrete or attach to the post footer? 2.) how wide should the post footer be (I'm using 6x6 posts) and 3.) how deep should the post footer be. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
