I have a brick veneer home in SC. My deck faces south, I'd like to cover it with a lean-to type structure. The deck is 12 feet off the ground. I'd like to come under the overhang but not sure whether to attatch through the brick and into the house, or come up with poles against the house to support the rafters. If i go with poles, should I sink them in the ground or lag them to my joist band on either side? Which type of roofing would be best for comfort and durability: metal, fiberglass, plastic?

Thanks,

Doug
