Yes we contacted warranty department and got name of a person handling complaints. First time around they responded promptly with a complete replacement of the deck from Mountain Cedar to Harvest Bronze. Second time around was a little harder...long time between replies to our e-mails and phone calls. Finally they sent DeckMax to clean it and treat it...then it scorched 8 weeks later.

Called, e-mailed and each time the "girl" who answered told us we had to fill out a warranty form even though we explained the whole situation..she was deaf to our issues. Sounded like she was told the answer to tell complaining customers. If you read all the past posts there are so many different answers TT gives customers that you realize none of them are the right answer.

We are still waiting and now as I posted the scorching has faded but so has the deck and now it's warping...bad....this is their better product?

They are the worse company to deal with and I will not recommend TT to anyone.....we are looking to join a class action suit if one is started but can't find one......

In the spring/summer of 2010, I had a deck put on with the XLM Desert Bronze. This past summer (2011), boards most exposed to the sunlight began fading quickly to a chalky white. I filed a complaint this fall with Timbertech and although it took some back n' forth everything was taken care of to my satisfaction.

They offered me the choice of a deck treatment (no thanks) and the replacement of all materials along with $2,100 labor (~$5 per square foot). The Desert Bronze was discontinued January of 2011 and replaced by Harvest Bronze. From those I've talked to (suppliers and contractors), there have been no reported issues with the Harvest Bronze.

The contractor who built the deck wanted $4,100 to replace the boards. Timbertech said they had someone in my area who would do it for $2,100 and they were very respected in the area. I checked them out and was fine using them (they told me they have done about 20 re-dos on the Desert Bronze). The new, new deck should be finished tomorrow.

Granted it was very annoying/stressful to spend $17K on a new deck and have to go through the process, but I'll give Timbertech credit for standing by their product and righting the situation.

I am aware of this problem and traveled around fixing these decks. Timbertech stands by their product and is replacing them when the claims are filed and pictures sent in.It just takes time. I traveled the east coast for six months doing this and now i am trying to help people in the OH,MI.KY,PENN and ILL area.I am limited to these areas because of travel expenses and hotel costs but if a deck is big I would travel.I can help give you some knowledge on how to submit the claims. These decks can be replaced in little time because it is just the surface areas that need replaced. Two things happen to this product and it is scorch and burn. The green moss will come off with a power washer but is harder in the areas that have the scorch and burn. Anyone around the great lakes area and western PA please email me at [email protected] and i might be able to help you out with replacement.

I think i can give you the solution to your problem. I am aware of these problems and did warranty replacements for timbertech. They are standing by thier product and replacing them but it takes time and you need to file a claim and send pictures. They will provide material and a five dollar per sq ft credit to have this installed. Anyone who has this problem please email me at [email protected] and i can help you out.

Another Fall 2009 XLM Mountain Ceder victim here.
The board closest to the frame in the photo was scrap lying in the dirt and grass in my sideyard for the ~30 since installation.

I saw it change over even the first year, but my wife was busy having babies, so I had other priorities and am now getting around to filing a claim...based on these posts, I'm a little bit scared.

I really wish I would have seen this post when I was having my deck installed. I also used the TimberTech XLM Desert Bronze decking when my deck was built in Dec 2010.

It must have been within the first 3 months when I started to see the white residue/frosting that others have reported as well. I followed TimberTech's Care & Cleaning procedure of washing and scrubbing the boards with Corte Clean but had absolutely no success after hours and hours of work to get the deck clean. The deck's appearance progressively worsened so I purchased a power washer and used TimberTech's Care & Cleaning instructions but again no improvement.

It wasn't till I started to do specific online searches for TimberTech XLM issues where I came upon this post. Today I have issued a warranty claim with TimberTech and hope to get a response and resolution quickly.

Could someone chime back in and tell me of their experience with the new XLM replacement option of the XLM Harvest Bronze? Has the issues arose again? How are the board holding up? My wife and I immediately liked the wood grain appearance of the XLM but it defeats the purpose and expense of composite to have to spend hours and hours scrubbing and cleaning.

I will keep everyone aprised of this issue and appreciate all feedback.

I have been following this thread for a year or so. I installed XLM Deset Bronze in fall of 2009. By June of 2011, the board started showing the white chalking. Timbertech sent DeckMax which worked for only two months before the white showed again. I have just reached out to Timbertech to get started with replacement.

I am concerned, from what I read on this blog, that all of their products will turn white.

Has anyone had replacement that has not faded? It may be too soon to tell, but at least two years without fading? If so, which product and color?

Timbertech promptly handled my warrenty quickly & without arguement. They paid for material and labor, no problem. They did right by me and the new deck looks great.
