I installed my timbertech XLM PVC decking about a year ago. I live in Southern California where there is no snow or extreme wheater conditions. My deck looks horrible. large areas of black mold and other areas of white frost and discoloration. It seems that it is ONLY HAPPENING WHERE THERE IS DIRECT SUN EXPOSURE. what response have you gotten from Timbertech. What is an alternative deck product?

Wow that is the worst I have seen...have you contacted Timbertech and I think we would all love to hear their answer.

I still think with all the complaints on this material, there could be grounds for a class action suit.

TT should be ashamed of their life/fade testing. My deck has white streaks in some boards and obvious fading to white in others with one total white. Bought and installed fall of '08. am in negotiation with TT. Very slow but they know they have a product problem. suggest one of

You young Turks gather all the data from this site and the TOPEX site and get signatures to motivate a solution. Lawyers will reduce our reimbursement. Solution may not be replacement every two years at our cost.Need some kind of long term fix.

They are selling a defective product, and they know it's defective.

I agree in having to replace every two year....absolutely ridiculous!! So far we're coming up on our second replacement in a year! Not acceptable at all and maybe they should be taken to court by everyone that has had this problem.

Blast it all over the internet too...start blogging about the defective product. If their sales drop? Won't they react faster?

Let's use the power of the Internet. Topix is a good place to start.

Well I'm glad/disappointed to have found this thread. We had our mountain cedar XLM deck installed in September of 2009 with materials ordered/purchased just days prior. My wife and I were out on the deck this evening and noticed a bunch of dark spots/streaks that we thought were either dirt or other grime. After trying to clean them with water, soap/water and then one of the cleaners recommended on timbertech's website we realized that this was not coming off. As others have described in the thread, it looks like someone took a flame thrower to our deck in spots.

I submitted our warranty claim online this evening. Our contractor was my wife's brother and the original installation caused enough strain in our relationship so we won't be turning to him again. I'm interested to see what Timbertech is willing to do to help us.

I think a class action lawsuit may be the right answer. They are obviously selling a defective product and we have enough people in this thread to constitute a class.

I argued with timber tech for months over labor costs after my 600sq ft mountain cedar deck turned white and they told me to use a hair dryer on the $15,000 pile of garbage. I now have a Desert Bronze deck with the edges beggining to chalk. I'm beside myself. I would love to do something to this company to make them pay.

Same scenario we are going through. I think the Desert Bronze is a bad run like their Mountain Cedar was.

I have started the process of contacting them again! First I get the same old form letter in response, blah, blah...Now I'm going to e-mail the tech I talked to last year and send him a picture.

They are knowingly selling a defective product and I am now telling all I know NOT to buy Timertech at all. Already have told 5 contractors and they said after looking at our deck will not use Timbertech.

Can't we go to the Better Business Bureau's in each state and let them know?
