I have a toilet in my house that is incredibly loud when flushing. Is this typically the fault of the toilet or the plumbing? I'll replace the toilet if that will fix it, but don't want to spend the money if that won't cure it.

It is strictly the design of the toilet. Many of the older toilets were designed to flush at maximum speed with little regard to how it sounded. ALARM!!!!!! If you opt to purchase a new toilet, be prepared for a drastic change in your flushing procedure. The new water conserving toilets do not handle solid waste as well as the older models. You will end up flushing 2 or 3 times to remove the waste occasionally. Your choice.........
Before there was no way to control the flushing water speed of two piece toilets and therefore, they could be very loud and annoying.
Now you can quiet your toilet with a new retrofit valve called The Toilet Zilencer.
It is very easy to install and you do not need any tools. It is also very affordable at $10.00, so forget about buying a new toilet at $$$ especially in this economy.
