We had our master bathroom remodeled six months ago and have had a problem with the caulking between the tiles and the outside of the floor drain. The tiles in the shower are the small, old-fashioned square ceramic tiles. The shower drain is a 3.5" round nickle plated drain.
The problem is that the caulking is not holding up too well. It's very rubbery and pieces have come out. There are now a few gaps between the tile and the drain that hold water.
Before you reply that it wasn't installed properly in the first place, let me tell you how I reinstalled it. First I scraped all the old caulking out. Then I dried the area with a hair dryer. Then I let it dry another seven days just to be sure. Finally, I applied the caulking to the gap and let that dry 24 hours.
Does anyone know what could be the problem? Is there another product we could use that would hold up better?
Thanks so much for you time.
