Can someone explain to me why hot water pipes fill up with sediment deposits faster than cold water pipes? I think I understand that calcium is precipitating out of the water, but I don't know what exactly heat has to do with it.

We are considering a tankless water heater, and have been advised that the problem folks around my area have with deposits narrowing hot water lines will also wreck a tankless water heater in short order.
