Yesterday afternoon, my toilet started flowing constantly. I pulled the top off and adjusted the float. That stopped the flowing water.

But now there is a whistling sound coming from the float assembly.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like the inlet valve assembly is leaking a bit. Try pulling up the float & see if that stops the sound. If so, might get by with more adjustment of the float. If not, may have to replace the assembly.

You still have a small leak passing by your float valve. You can test this by turning off the water to the toilet...whistling stops.Putting in a fluidmaster® assembly will upgrade the toilet.

Just last weekend, I replace 2 Float Systems in 2 toilets because they were SCREAMING like hog-tied pigs! Now, I never thought the sound of a flushing toilet sounded ever so sweet.

Anyways, you could try to replace the washer and 'seat' in the Refill Valve Assembly but the experience I've had w/ANYTHING having to do w/water (under pressure), it's BEST to have ALL NEW PARTS working w/ALL NEW PARTS. If you try and skimp on just fixing the 'bad part', next thing you know you'll be replacing everything anyways because old parts aren't working well w/new parts.

I used the Fluidmaster 400. The 400LP is OK but a pain to hook up. It will prevent slow leaks from causing the 'ghost flushing' but, again, they're kinda a pain. Just use the 400.

My best to ya and hope this helps.

Turned off the water to the toilet, and the whistling stopped. Thanks, guys.
