Hi, my wife and I are refurbishing a 40 year old home and we would like to install a garbage disposer. There is not one installed now and we are wondering what we should look for when choosing one.

Thanks for any advice, Randy
PS: you can post here or drop us an email as well. Thanks a bunch!

Dear Randyannie,
If you refer to a sink type garbage disposal unit, I would look for a unit that is mostly stainless steel and features a good warranty. Your local home improvement store should have a number of models to choose from. Before you buy, read the box to ascertain that your purchase is exactly what you wish. The middle priced models are what most contractors install and will last for quite awhile. But options are a personal preference. Also, have a professional install the wiring and install a wall switch to activate the unit. It is much safer to operate that way.
Good Luck,
Len
