After 20 years of faithful service my toilet got to the point that it seldom evacuated all the waste in the bowl on a single flush. I check water level in the tank and raised fill height to the maximum, augured, plunged ,cleaned, and cussed; but alas only minimal improvement. Today I cleaned the holes (there must be 10 or 12) under the rim of the bowl and now it works as it did when new. My guess is hard water deposits reduced the openings and restricted the flow of water into the bowl. I squirted a calcium/lime/rust stain remover full strength into the holes and poured about 2 cups of a 50/50 cleaner water mix through the tank.

Thanks for the input. I wonder how many toilets get replaced every year just because of this problem.
