I want to vent a new bathroom in my basement. I have access to 4 inch cast iron vent stack. However, the pipe is in the rafters and there does not appear to be room to fit in a pipe cutter. Is there another way to tap into this cast iron pipe? can I drill a hole in it and some how make a connection?

that 4 inch line is probably a waste line so dont cut it so fast. run water in your house and determine if it is indeed a vent line since they run vertical not horizontal, if it sounds like water is running in that line it may be a bigger mess than you can deal with.
