In our upstairs master bedroom, I have a tub and shower approximately five feet apart. When the tub drains, the shower drain makes all sorts of loud gurgling and bubbling noises? Is this a problem? a nuisance? normal? We hadn't heard it before in nine years, so I am guessing there is something going on. ideas?

This usually a sign that your drain is begining to back up.

Sounds like your tub and shower share a common vent pipe which has become blocked. You need to have it snaked. This is usually done from either the attic or from the roof.
