let me lay out the cabin for you. it's 14' x 28'. the 28' walls are the front and back, 14' are the left and right. the ground slopes downhill from left to right. my foundation is built on beams, which are on concrete blocks getting taller from left to right. on the far left side, each footing is only 1 block high. on the far right side, it is about 3 concrete blocks high. i've got some space on the right side of the cabin where i could put a septic tank.
now, i'm pretty sure i've figured out everything related to the water supply lines. the system is driven by water pressure, so no rocket science there.
my main questions are regarding DWV (Drain, Waste, and Vent):
1) what constitues an adequate septic tank? the reason i ask is that most people at my deer camp just bury 50-gallon drums with an input line and an output line. waste enters via the input line and liquid runoff exits via the output line. the output line is run way out into the woods and allowed to drain there. is this adequate? what would you recommend for the tank itself? do you know of any good resources for learning how septic tanks work and how to design a crude one? i've also heard about adding an air compressor to a septic tank. how in the heck does this work?
2) on my cabin, all plumbing fixtures would be on the extreme left of the building. i'm going to have 2 sinks, 1 toilet, and 1 shower. would it be feasable to have 2 main drain lines that run the length of the building. the 1st would carry toilet output only. this would go from the toilet to the input on the septic tank. the septic tank would then have an output that went into the woods. the 2nd drain line would go from the sinks/shower and carry "clean" water. it would run parallel to the toilet drain line, and eventually hook into the "output" line on the other end of the septic tank. from there it would join the septic runoff and go into the woods.
3) if the "clean" water appliances are drained by a separate line from the toilet, is there any need for a "trap" on these sinks? or can the water simply drain?
4) how do you design the "Vent" portion of this system? i've seen the images of the main stack in multi-story houses that have basements, but this is a single-story cabin built on beams on concrete blocks. the venting issue really has me confused!
if anyone can point me to any resources that would help me in this design process i would be greately appreciative!
