Hello! I'm putting in a new garage door (the opening has never had a garage door in it before) and the instructions call for nailing "temporary stop molding" to the jambs.

My questions: Is this the same as the stop molding used for interior trim? Also, why is it temporary?

Thanks for helping out a newbie!

You mean a roll up garage door?

The molding is different than inside molding, it has rubber weatherseal and is about 2 inches wide and comes in plastic (many colors)or pre-primed wood.

Go to your local hardware store, they should have a good selection.

Let us know how it works out.

It seems that the "temporary stop molding" is basically a 1x2 nailed flush with the opening so that as I stack up the door sections it doesn't fall through the opening. After the door is up I'm supposed to remove it and put up weather stripping.

It's going okay, but the hurricane wind reinforcing struts are a bit of a puzzle!

Thanks for the info!
