I have just replaced the toilets in my home. The house is about 40 years old. The drain lines from the toilets looked very rusted. The flanges were in good shape. My question is about how often should drain lines of toilets need to be replaced. The big problem is that the drain lines go into the cement foundation of the house, if they are to be replaced I need to break into the foundation.

Assuming you have cast iron pipes, they tend to look pretty bad on the inside but they should be there much longer than your flanges.
