What does a 3/4 rough in consist of ? I am having a new home built and paid 475.00 for a 3/4 rough in for the basement. All I see in the area of the rough in is a clean out, 1- 3" 1-2" pipe and a 2" pipe that connects into another 2" pipe that vents out the roof. I guess what my question is did I get what I paid for ? Also, the shower and sink will use the same pipe for draining ? Thanks .

I had to rack my brain on this one. You see a 3" pipe ok let's assume thats for the water closet. And you see a 2" pipe. Let's assume that's the stub up for the shower. But you see a 2" vent pipe vtr. The only way this is legal is with a sewer ejector pump. That's where all the wastes are dumped into a crock with a pump, that expels the wastes into the main house drain that is above the basement floor. The term rough-in more refers to the measurements and where or what the plumber is making his connections of each individual plumbing fixture. For example a toilet would be roughed in 12-1/2" off a back wall, and either a 3 or 4" pipe would then be stubbed up. Ask the builder if a 3/4 rough-in was for a full bathroom that includes a tub and or shower, a lav (sink) and a water closet (toilet) The 3/4 part may be in terms of only a powder room.

Rough-In could refer to the amount of work the plumber is going to do. I had a house built this year and the plumber just roughed-in everything. He left stubs for drains and water lines in each room. I hooked up the shower, put the valves on the water lines, attached the sinks, etc.

He roughed it in. I finished it. I never heard him use the term 3/4 rough-in thou.

Sounds like he roughed-in for a 3/4 bath which is usually a toilet, sink and shower. A 1/2 bath is a toilet and sink and a full bath is a sink, toilet, shower and bathtub.
