Our wash machine pumps water directly into our sump pump. Whenever the wash machine runs, there is a STRONG odor in our house of sewer\crap. The smell comes only in the bathrooms. IF we keep those doors closed, it's not so bad. Is there a trap that opens when the sump pump runs? I have run the sump pump at other times (not as long of pds) and it does not smell when it runs for short pds. So, I was wondering if the smells has something to do with the wash machine??

Not sure about where you live and the plumbing code, but that type of discharge is prohibited in most codes. Is this a sewer ejector pit? If so you may not be vented properly. Ejector pits get back vented via 2" PVC to the stack.
