I have a stuck plunger on a lever type of tub drain. It is stuck ABOVE the drain opening so water can flow out. Even when I put water directly in the Overflow pipe I still have drainage but it seems that the mechanism is jammed in place. Any tips or solutions on how to get this thing loose? I will give baking soda and vinegar a try but wanted to see if anyone had success with anything else. Oh, and yes, I tied a piece of shoelace to the part so if be does loosen (some day) it can hopefully be retrieved. Terry

You should be able to keep working the linkage back and forth and obtain some movement. If you have a brass bodied waste and overflow an o ring may have come misaligned. Most likely you have a plastic W & O and the brass wire linkage may have kinked. I presume you have taken off and disconnected the overflow plate to work on the linkage. I wouldn't think that lubricates or cleaners would help. If you have an access opening you may be able to disconnect the top pipe. Be careful if you have an older brass overflow.
