I have to remount a toilet after a bathroom re-model. What size wax ring do I need and how can I tell? The original one of course was destroyed when I pulled the toilet. I don't have any paperwork on the toilet but it really isn't very old.

There is just one diameter of bowl wax. Although a California Plumber has posted that less experienced plumbers use the wrong size.

If your flange is on top of the floor then just the normal bowl wax without the plastic insert is good. Some plumbers are starting to use the sponge gasket without wax and report good results. I have not used one.
