I am remodeling a second floor bathroom and upon removing the shower pan it was apparent that the p-trap needed to be replaced.
It is connected to a lead pipe that runs under the bathroom floor and eventually to the main cast iron waste pipe.
I had to cut away the p-trap and was wondering if it is appropriate to use a No-hub coupling to attach a PVC pipe to the lead pipe so that a PVC trap can be installed to run to a new fiberglass shower pan? After I lay tile there will be no access to this coupling, is it a good idea to use this method because of long-term issues such as clamps rusting and breaking?
What other option is there besides cracking the lead pipe out of the cast iron waste pipe.
