I had an old pump hooked to an old (probably 2") well in my home when I bought it. The previous owners left it hooked up when city water came, for watering lawn, etc. It worked fine for several years, until the pump rusted through and began leaking. I removed the old pump and installed a new shallow-well fully contained unit with pump, tank, etc. all included. I tried everything to get the new system to pump water. I think there may be an "air lock" of sorts in the piping down to the ground water. I prime the system full, run the pump, and it only pumps out the prime water and that's it. All I can figure is I may need a cystern-style pump to suck the air out of the line and get a continuous flow of water to achieve prime?? Any ideas of an easier way to prime or how to find a cystern pump set-up, if that may do it???

poor water in the pipe that goes to the well untill it fills up {if it does not fill up it needs a filtered check valve[a foot]at the bottom of your well--- if its a drivin well I sujust you put a poly pipe with a foot valve down 1 foot off the bottom [unless its a new driven well]anyways with any driven well that has not been used in awhile - get a plumbob or somthing that fit down the well freely and a strong string and lower into the well [untill you hit bottom] pull it out of the well----put it out in your yard and measer it -----how ever long it is --is how deep your well is and how ever long it is untill it is wet is where your water level is(important}-----------------------------anyways your 2" pipe going down to the bottom of the well mite have a hole in it thats why i put a poly pipe and a 3/4 check valve or foot vavle ----any bigger would not fit inside a 1 1/4 pipe----- from home depot inside the driven pipe
