I recently bought a 6x3 granite shower bottom/pan. I am not entirely sure how to install this and wondered if anyone had any suggestions. I assume I still need a standard shower pan membrane underneath it running it up on the sides. This granite piece is at least 1.5"-2" think. Do I need to have a mortar bed poured first and then use thinset to "set" it onto? The guy at ***** where I bought it said I didn't need a mortar bed. Thanks for any suggestions.

It really depends on your sub floor surface. If its concrete, you could probably get away with thinset to hold it in place. If its out of level, you will need to set it into something that you can level it with (typically grout).
If the edge of the pan is not flanged to receive the wall surface that you are going to be using, you will need some kind of vapor barrier or membrane that redirects the water that will get behind the wall surface to the drain. In any case you will need a vapor barrier to prevent damage to the walls and structure.
