I am currently remodeling a bath in my house. I have eliminated all the 1970's Avocado green and harvest gold tile and fixtures. The new look will be cottage style and white. The bath tub is set in an alcove.
My question: The new bath tub is substantially taller than the old, 20+ " versus about 16". The old faucet handles were at 32" with the tap about 4" above the apron of the tub. What height should the new handles be set to and how high should the tab be above the new apron? Are there ergonomically correct dimensions? Are there standards?

I usually set tub and shower faucets to 40" (+-2" depending on the height of the family), which is just about the average persons extended hand dimension. The tub spout should be set 4" above the top edge of the surface of the tub. Code requires that there be a 2" air gap above the overflow rim of the tub. The point where the tub overflows onto the floor, if completely filled. By setting it at 4" (for a standard spout) it takes into consideration the downturn at the end of the spout.
