I have an unknown brand mixet that drips when the shower or tub faucet is on. I can't seem to get the mixet assembly off to get to the cartridge (it has a metal flanged knob with a metal temp control level).

Any suggestions on getting it off and then fixing the leak?

Well this is a difficult question to answer, because there are so many brands of faucet that are made, without knowing the brand, I could give you bad advise. I will say though, if it has a mixing lever, its probably a moen or a delta. Get a book with pictures of the faucet from one of the home warehouse centers. You may be able to see the complete disassembly of the faucet on their pages. Black and Decker makes a good book on home plumbing repair.
