I just removed a 4-bolt toilet from my mother's house, circa 1950. I had to rip out and replace the subfloor which had rotted due to long-term toilet leak, and tried today to install a new 2-bolt toilet. My problem is that the bolt holes in the old iron flange do not line up with the bolt holes in the new toilet. If I line them up, then the exit hole on the toilet bowl bottom is too far back and the little lip makes it impossible to sit flush. If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this - I'd really appreciate it. Seems like I may have to call a plumber on this one...

Someone may have to replace the flange on the pipe coming through the floor. This is probably a job for a plumber. A plumber will be able to offer you multiple solutions for this problem on site. A lot of factors will come into play. If you are in concrete, ceramic, wood or other flooring situations, it will change the answer to your problem. But there are interior and exterior compression type flanges that can be installed for newer type toilets.

I Cant believe it. My brother swapped the 4 bolt toilet with the two bolt toilet and it fit perfectly. Could not have gone smoother. Fit like a charm. I was thrilled. Everything lined up perfectly.
