My wife loves to take hot baths with the large tub filled as full as possible. We have a 40 gallon hot water heater. She says it is not adequate to fill this large tub with enough hot water. I ahve checked the elements, and they are fine. The temp is set at about 125 degrees.

Should I go to a 50 gallon or larger? I cringe at spending even more money for energy. We do not have the space to install an additional water heater.

There are 5 peopel in our family and we run a dishwasher and with teenagers, someone is always in the shower way too long.

The other option is to provide a tankless water heater at the location of the whirlpool and set it to provide additional hot water to the unit. You can simply connect a second line from the cold line and have someone tie it in to the hot line directly, disconnecting it from the tank heater. Or you can set it up so that when the hot water runs out from the tank heater, a thermostat changes a solenoid valve and shuts off the tank heater and turns it over to the tankless. Though, the tankless should provide all your needs. You can buy the tankless with gas or electric. Though if you are going to install it under the whirlpool, an electric will be necessary.
