Just want to make sure i'm thinking of doing the right thing... i went to start to replace a toilet today at home and lo and behold, the shut-off valve is stuck and corroded, so i need to replace it... figured i need to shut the water supply off, remove the toilet and then simply cut a little below the existing valve, then sauder on a new 1/2 vavle, add new water supply line and hook up toilet... just wanted to make sure this is the correct process... any help would be great. thanks.i've done similar things with our dishwasher, we're finding out that all the valves in the house are old and corroded, so this is going to be an issue throughout...

If the existing stop valve was solder. A lot of them are threaded or compression fittings so that they can be unscrewed and replaced.
But to solder it you will need to get it DRY, that might mean opening some lower level valves (basement, output faucets) to drain the line and if you don't have any of those the little drain cap on the side of the main valve.
