I am installing wainscoting in my kitchen and am curious if the height of the wainscoting should be equal to the height of the countertops. Would it be unappealing to the eye if the wainscoting were lower?

Your countertop is 36" the wainscott if the room is 8' should be 32"

Have a look at the proportion & scale page on the "king of Crown" site, the "how do i" button.

We have rough walls in our kitchen and the backs of our chairs were always sanded off. We installed 40 inch wainscoting with our 8 foot ceiling and it works just fine for us and looks great.
