I have a gas water tank. I checked it this morning and the pilot light is working and nothing is leaking, but its not producing any hot water. Is there a part that needs replacing?

thanks.

Here's a link I copied for you. I think it will answer all of your questions. I think your thermostat assembly is bad. But I think you have to replace the whole assembly which may be pretty expensive. If the water heater is more than 10 years old you may consider replacing it with a new one.
