I would like to build a mezzanine in my two car garage. It would span 21 feet and be approx 4-5 feet wide.
I want this to span the 21 feet without a support in the middle if possible.
I was thinking of using three 2x6's bolted or nailed together.
What does everyone think?
Thanks

- Beam span needed
You really need to get a structural engineer or a local carpenter to size that span due to the differing location & load factors...
... that said the min. supporting a light load roof only w/no snow is a (6) 5 5/8 x (12) 11 7/8 psl engineered beam spaning 21 ft.
Have a look at my deck site, www.decks-ca.com ... decks dash ca dot com ... go to the joist span page and use the US species calculator for headers just so you'll know the loads & what can be put into header width for your specific load, that will pop up a pdf table for you to look at.
