Hi,

Our house has a finished basement and the grey water line runs beneath the foundation concrete. We had a back-up from our septic tank recently and we found that it also poored up through some spot under the foundation. We're assuming there is a leak in the waste line running out and the water pushed up through some place in the foundation (the edge where it meets the wall).

Is there a way to determine if/where the crack is in the pipe under the foundation?

If it is cracked, can this be addressed by just filling any opening on top of the concrete floor where the water (and sometimes smell) is coming up through?

Thanks in advance for your help.

-Steve

A plumber, specially one that does a lot of drain cleaning and repair, will have a system of a tv camera and radio transmitter.

They can inspect the line to see where the damage is and with the radio tell you where that is under the floor.

BTW, gray water is limited to non-human waste such as clothes washer discharge. Sounds like you might have black water here.

I think I heard about that (unfortunately expensive, but isn't everything in the business).

I think that's what I've got to have done.

Our grey water line eventually hits a "Y" (the black water is the other part meeting at the "Y") and it then goes into the septic tank. The backup in the septic tank then went down both pipes.

Thanks,

Steve

Well considering my color camera with locator cost over $9,000 consider it like going to a DR (but we make house calls) and having an MRI taken in your home.

My normal see is $500 MIN BUT there are some contractors who will wave the video inspection if they are given the repair / replacement work.

Just make sure they are licensed and insured
