Bvplumbing
During the last month my mom's water will not run thru faucets after flushing toilet. After 4 or 5 minutes the water runs normally again. This happens every day, but not every time toilet is flushed.

I'm worried if I call a plumber the problem wouldn't show up while he was there.

Can anyone tell me what might be causing this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank-you,

Dave

p.s. water in toilet tank will fill up half way before water stops running.

Is this well water or city?

Are the pies ferrous metal

Is the water hard allowing for mineral build up?

Dave , we must stop meeting like this. :-)

Dear Sylvan:

l. We have well water.

Answer. It could be the pump is slow to react to pressure drop that calls for more water. Timing or pressurestat may have to be adjusted

2. Pipes are about 50 years old.

Answer. 50 Year old piping especially with hard water can have accumulation this is more so on ferrous metals such as galvanized where the internal diameter is severely reduced.

Think of a pipe like a cylinder full of water and internal corrosion as the water is being drawn like a faucet open or a toilet flushed the volume inside this piping is drawn away BUT because of the reduction in the pipes ability to replace the water in a timely manner the water stops flowing under it replaced with the incoming supply.

Hard water and ferrous metals are notorious for mineral deposits and depending on the pH and mineral content copper tubing does not guarantee that it will not give up the ghost to erosion and pitting.

Try placing a magnet on the water supply lines and it sticks then you know you have ferrous metal.

Please feel free to contact me anytime

Thanks for any help. Dave

Your very welcome Sylvan Tieger

Have a great week end
