I have a tub drain that pops up/down to open close. How easy is it to install a new drain that does not have the pop up/down mechanism, but that has a screen over it?

Are you talking about a trip lever waste or a tip toe waste?

Ether one would have to have the over flow replaced and the tub shoe and depending on the trap if it also has to be replaced and do you have access from the back, or under neither.

It could have been a standing waste also converted over the years depending on the age of the tub and if it even has an over flow /trip lever assembly
