The bathroom in the basement would not drain so I removed the overflow plate and pulled the linkage out, the plunger did not come out with it, any ideas on how to get the plunger out.

I use a metal coat hanger cut it with a wire cutter and straigeten it out.

Then on one end make a tiny hook shape push it down the over flow give it a half turn and try lifting up and 99 out of a 100 times you get it in one try
