RECENTLY MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE NOTICED A REALLY BIG DRAINING PROBLEM AND WITHIN A WEEK IT HAS GOTTIN WORSE. WHEN WE LOAD OUR WASHING MACHINE AND IT DRAINS BEFORE THE RINSE CYCLE THE WATER BACKS UP IN OUR TOILET, BATH TUB, AND KITCHEN SINK. OF COURSE, THE OPPPOSITE IS TRUE WHEN WE FILL THE BATH TUB OR DRAIN THE DISH WATER...IT GURGLES AND COLLECTS IN THE OTHER LOCATIONS. WE AREN'T MADE OF MONEY AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE IF WE CAN FIX THIS OURSELVES BEFORE BRINGING IN THE PROFESSIONALS. WE HAVE TRIED SEVERAL DRAIN CLEANERS AND ARE THINKING ABOUT RENTING A ROOTER. WE THINK WE MAY HAVE A MAIN SEWER LINE CLOG. IS THIS TRUE? WHAT CAN WE DO TO FIX THIS...WILL A ROOTER HELP? IF WE HAVE TO GO THE PROFESSIONAL ROUTE, HOW MUCH WOULD SOMETHING LIKE THIS COST? ARE WE TALKING $200, $500, $800 OR MORE??? ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED. HELP!!!!

Are ther any drains that are NOT affected? Are these closer to where the main exits the house/building?

If so, the clog is likely between the washer/tub/kitchen and free drain. You could probably reach this w/ an auger.

If it is *****her out in the main, it could be anywhere between the bath and where it meets the utility main in the street or alley. An auger would have to be at least that long (longer if it is not a straight shot). You might get it w/ rented equipment, but it is a tough, nasty job.

I,ve done several, it is not that hard. It is Very nasty and messy, and can be dangerous if you are not familiar with the process. Just things to consider - The pro's clean up after themselves.

Hope it helps
