Why would someone connect an AC line to a waste line (direct connection)?????

my friend had same problem recently and the plumber said it was her a/c from the attic draining into the pipes of the bathroom sink?! I am pretty clueless, all I know is water keeps coming up thru my sink and isn't draining

thanks

There is a new phenomena in plumbing that "water seeks its own level" thus if water is backing up into a sink it means this sink is NOT DRAINING properly.

Again condensate from an AC system requires an "air break" (in direct waste) as one really does not like to have bacteria from the waste line coming into an AC condensate drain.

There is a rumor going around the industry about something called Legionnaire disease and cross connections and I guess some folks take it seriously enough that they read codes regarding putting this kind of hook up and know it is verboten.

But to each there own as some folks like to play with fire figuring it is always the other guy who gets sick from water borne diseases entering the A/C system something about sick building syndrome I heard once mentioned.
