I recently purchased a house for which I plan to remodel the kitchen. I am planning on installing an island and making use of the wall space for a larger range. However the new range would encroach on the existing dishwasher, forcing me to re-locate it. In fact I would also like to add a second dishwasher.
My thinking is to put two dishwashers in the island. You might ask why I don't put the range in the island, but I've been there and done that. Ventilating an island cooktop or range is a pain.
I am more than competent at plumbing and familiar with island venting of a sink drain, but I am curious about draining a dishwasher where there is no sink. I would assume that a trap is necessary, or is it? Does the dishwasher not already have what is essentially a trap just by virtue of its' design?
