I HAVE FOUR PIPES RUNNING SIDE BY SIDE THE LENGTH OF THE CEILING. THE PIPES SUPPLY WATER TO THE UPSTAIRS BATH. I CUT OUT A 1/2 SPLIT FROM A PIPE. INSERTED THE SHARK BITE COUPLING ON ONE END OF THE PIPE 1 INCH.(INSTRUCTIONS SAY TO INSERT THE PIPE 1 INCH AT EACH END OF THE COUPLING.) THE PIPE CAN BE PULLED 2 INCHES PAST THE OTHER CUT PIPE.) CAN NOT GET THE PIPE TO GO IN THE REQURED LENGTH 1 INCH AT THE OTHER END OF THE COUPLING. ANY SUGESSTIONS? HAS ANYONE USED THE SHARK BITE COUPLINGS? AREA IS SO CLOSE CAN NOT GET TOOLS INTO IT TO WORK.

I Never heard of a shark bite coupling.

What I did hear of was mission couplings (waste and vent) Dresser couplings water, waste and approved insulated ones on gas service piping).

There is also some called slip couplings that go over a copper tubing line and then soldered.

I normally just cut out the existing split piping and replace it and depending on the piping materials involved would determine they type of repairs needed

I have used the Shark bite fittings and they work great, a little pricey though, If you are having trouble getting your pipe a full 1" into the fitting, you have to make sure that the hard poly insert inside the fitting is going inside of your pipe,if you are holding your fitting in a horizontal position, that insert has a tendency to drop down in the fitting, you may be pushing against this. you can depress the releasing collar on the fitting and pull the insert out and then stick it inside your pipe first, and then shove it into the shark bite fitting
