today I discovered that I can get no water running in the upstairs bathroom--the sink, shower, and toilet are all not working. The water is running in the bathroom and kitchen downstairs. It's very cold out, so I turned up the heat and left the sink and shower on, but so far nothing has happened. Any advice? thanks

The reason the other poster was able to get her water flowing and you cant is simple..

SHE gave a great smile and you didnt (teasing)

Just leave the heat on leave the faucet open and with any luck the water will start to flow. IF not you may have to heat the lines VERY carefully and try to avoid any open flame

Between Friday and today I had 87 NO HEAT calls and 14 freeze ups

Ok, thanks I'll keep the heat on and hope for the best. Now this may sound like a dumb question--how do I heat the pipes if they are not exposed?

If the pipes cannot be thawed by leaving the heat on you may have to use a hair drier CAREFULLY and start at the top of the pipe near the open faucet and work down BECAFEUL and use a GFI outlet
