I have a new shower faucet set and am installing the shower arm (the pipe the shower head threads to) into the female 90 degree elbow in the wall. When tight, the arm is 180 degrees off meaning it is pointing at the ceiling not at the tub. Is there a way to get it to be tight and point down?

Depending on quality and how tight you made it, IT can be turned to the correct angle BUT if you over tighten or it is cheap quality then you have a good possibility of snapping off the threads inside the 1/2" 90 degree fitting (called an elbow)

I hope you did pit enough Teflon tape on the threads

Extra wraps of teflon tape worked great.

Wow I am so glad I went to school that day when they offered a crash course in Teflon tape and paste products.

NOW that it worked for you I think I will try it on my future jobs
