I want to do a raised panel look for my daughter's nursery at plate rail height. I was thinking I could acheive this look just by doing it over the existing drywall, since I'm going to paint it all off-white anyways...how do I go about doing this? How do I finish the edges of the 2x4's or whatever are used as the vertical/horizontal pieces? I want a look of vertical pieces running up, then a horizontal on top of that and then more vertical, finished off with the plate rail, thus creating 2 rows of "rectangles" or the faux panels...help!

There's an EXCELLENT article on this in last month's fine homebuilding magazine. Start to finish.

Hi Tori,

Try your local public library! A great resource indeed.

Fine Homebuilding magazine, if you haven't seen it, will probably really impress you. Also kind of pricey...makes the library all the more appealing!
