I heard I can use PEX for Natural Gas in addition to water (FANTASTIC for water repipings). Any one know which mfg makes it? Is it in the states yet?

Gary, once someone says a new product is great just sit back and wait and smile.
Time will tell, all I do know is copper has a proven track record over 3,000 years and promotes health in drinking water and is used for medical gas applications and can be used for waste, venting, some types of fuel,water,heating
and many other HVAC /plumbing and steamfitting applications.
One of the few natural materials that is great for most applications in residential and is very easy to recycle if someone cares about the environment.

There are many things in water that can damage copper water lines. I.E. some people mistakenly think that copper kills/prevents bacteria from damaging copper tubing used in water lines but... although that is initially true, just a few months longer than the tests were run, and things change and more bacteria are found in copper than plastics.
The damage done to our environment in mining copper is horrific and totally unable to be undone by backfilling the pits. Currently the pits are so huge, they can be seen from space. And it takes a lot of energy to convert copper ore into copper tubing.
No matter how hard 'man' tried to prevent the replacement of the horse with the "horse less carriage", horses were replaced, for better or worse. And the farriers, stable owners, harness and buggy makers, blacksmiths on'on went away in droves. As you know we call it progress and usually there are hiccups, corrections and adjustments along the way but, copper is on it's way out the same as the galvanized and lead pipes it replaced.

This is why I use stainless steel filter housings as many cheap filter companies use PVC and talk about filtering the water yet do not warn the public about the effects of toxins leaching into the water supply.

That only those type people find any problem with the use of plastics. Well and then there are some plumbers too...:)

I must tell hospitals that YOU suggested we stop using stainless steel and copper for Oxygen lines and go plastic.
The world is wrong as many people still use galvanized piping.
I personally think it is strange to filter water then let it sit in a toxic plastic tank that can leach chemicals into the same water folks are trying to clean.
But then again I did mention CHEAP manufacturers.
I do install plastic when there is no viable substitute like acid systems and pool recirculation lines

I reread everything I've said in this thread, and I can't find where I spoke to anything other than potable water in copper tubing. Now you bring in SS and medical but...
You might want to talk to hospitals about using SS and copper in place of all the plastic they use for packaging and dispensing meds, food and beverages etc.. Dentists too, they use a lot of plastic stuff. Maybe 'cuz SS and copper doesn't bend much for their needs in working in our mouths.
