How do you reattach the drain pipe to the kitchen sink?
I have a double sink. One side is the disposal and the other is just a sink with a drain. Last night I turned my disposal on and the pipe that connects the sink with the drain to the u-trap detached itself. Probably from the vibrations of the disposal the pipe jimmied itself loose and then apart. Two questions: 1) Can I fix this myself? 2) How do I fix it myself?

Depends on your talents and if you have the right tools.
Depending on the type of connections, normally slip join brass fitting (slip ell, or waste bends or double offsets.
I normally use a brass nut which I order separately from the fittings and use Lamp wick (NOT Quick wick) and use an 11/2" nylon washer and plumbers dope (joint compound)

First....its a P-trap not a U trap.
Possibly something was overtightened to begin with (these connections should just be hand-tight) and a retaining ring has been stripped or cracked.
Possibly your DWV lines were overstressed and not long enough/pitched correctly, etc. and again something has spilt, cracked, or stripped.
Possibly your Disposal wasn't properly supported/braced and as you said, its vibrations caused a split, crack, strip, etc. somewhere.
The drain basket/colar connection might not have been seated properly and/or has been stripped?
Too many variables and it is unclear how you had these two sink basins (one via the disposal) interconnected or independantly drained, and trapped to the DWV, nor where exactly you have had a disconnection (threaded connection or slip joint?).
