I replaced the leaking flapper and hooked up the new chain that was attached, and did not touch anything else.

Now when the toilet is flushed the flapper does not stay up long enough to allow for a full flush. It falls down when only 1/3 to 1/2 of the tank is used.

You have to adjust the linkage on the chain not to much slack
