Ok - I live in Iowa. The high for today was in the single digits. Why is my sump pump still running? We have a hose connected to the end of the pipe where the water comes out of the house. The hose is underground and goes approx. 100 feet. Any ideas as to why my sump pump is still running ? I can hear water being sucked out when it runs and don't hear that it is running right back in.

I'm clueless.

The pump pit may have water in it but the line above is frozen so the pump keeps working not being able to discharge the water. Hopefully the pump is thermostatically protected from over heating

Makes sense but we have checked to make sure there is water coming out after the pump runs and there is.
