5 minutes after using hot water, it seems the water in the pipes between my heater and my bathroom goes cold again, and I need to run it for 30-60 seconds before i get hot water again. Does this mean I need new pipes? Or maybe insulation for them?

Sounds like either a cross connection or possibly a defective dip tube

I know pretty much nothing about plumbing. Can you explain what those things are and what would need to be done? Thanks :)
