It's not clear from your post if everything you inherited is pure oak, or if there is other material - such as a mattress, furniture stuffing, etc.

(If so, that's probably where the smell originates, not in the wood.)

The furniture we received is an oak dresser and chest. The smell is in the wood itself and the drawers. There is no material. thanks
