I have this model since 2001,. recently, everytime I flushed a toilet in house, the water flew from any of faucet become very little. I had cleaned the water softener value by using black flushing and also disasembly the rotary value, it seems no bad parts and blockage both mehtod was recommended by Sear's representative. When I by-pass the softener, the water pressure in house is good. Any suggestions and problem solving tips? Thanks.

Sounds like the resin is fouled.

What are your water conditions?

City water or well?

Any iron in the water?

Eight years on a Sears softener is outstanding... might be time for a new one.

I use city water and the quality is good. How to determine the resin is bad? or better to change a new unit instead to change resin tank?

By the time you do the labor, buy the resin, and then find another problem you'd be smarter to buy a new softener.

Sears softeners are marginally competent, not made of the best materials, usually do not last longer than about three years (although you have enjoyed extraordinary longevity out of yours (but don't bet the next Sears softener will be the same), and are not that much less expensive than an industry standard softener that outperforms and outlasts a sears softener by decades.

Shop around for an industry standard softener that uses a Fleck control valve.

Make sure you consult a water treatment professional so your new softener is properly sized and setup for your size family, plumbing requirements, and water conditions.
