Hi, I'm new to this forum. I just bought a water softener Kenmore 370 hope i did the right choice. :) I have a question since i'll be doing the plumbing myself to save some $$... 1)I would like to know if i can use a rubber or comparable (flexible) tubing? or i need to install a copper tubing? all my tubing in the house are copper tubing. 2) does water softener have a pump? I live in a townhouse that is a 3 lvl and the softener will be at the ground floor. does the softener needs to fill up before i can get a preasure from upstairs? 3)can i use the other kind(sorry i forgot the name) beside salt? and is it better? sorry for the newbie question. You bought a disposable water softener that is adequate for low hardness city water. They are short lived and made of less than the best materials.

2. Softeners have no pump. The softener will need to fill before you have water pressure. If the softener is properly sized regarding SFR for the house and the # of people you shouldn't see a pressure drop. Sears softeners are commonly undersized and you probably will lose pressure through the softener.
3. You are speaking about KCl (potassium chloride) and it is more environmentally friendly than NaCl (sodium chloride) but more expensive.
Now questions for you...
Are you plumbing in the softener to service the main or only the hot water?
Do you have a drain and electricity available at the installation location?
