Yes the p trap assembly is 1.25 in.

that's what i thought you were refering to.

usually if the trap or tailpiece is 1 1/4 and you need to convert up to 1 1/2 at some point you use that washer that adapts from the one to the other.

1 1/4 to 1 1/2 plastic washer.
